Katowice UNESCO City of Music.
The energy released during Katowice’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2016 did not disappear when that process ended. It became the foundation for a new cultural identity built around music.
I contributed to the successful application that brought Katowice into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Music — helping turn collective sector knowledge, relationships and a long-term vision into an international designation.
Lasting outcome Katowice joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2015 and continues to develop its international profile through music.
Pszczyna — European Capital of Culture 2029 candidate
2024CULTURAL STRATEGY · PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT
Pszczyna — Candidate for European Capital of Culture 2029.
As a member of the programme council for Pszczyna’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2029, I contributed to consultations, programme development and the strategic work of connecting the city’s local identity with a broader European cultural narrative.
The application process brought artists, institutions, residents and civic partners into a shared conversation about culture as a driver of Pszczyna’s future.
Lasting outcome A stronger cross-sector cultural dialogue and a strategic programme that can continue to inform the city beyond the competition itself.
5th Polish Music Convention, Warsaw, 2023
2023ADVOCACY · SECTOR DIALOGUE
Polish Music Convention.
At the 5th Polish Music Convention, I spoke in a session devoted to artist management and non-governmental organisations, bringing the working realities of independent organisations and impresarios into a national conversation.
The discussion moved beyond diagnosis and concluded with concrete recommendations intended to improve the conditions in which Poland’s music sector operates.
Lasting outcome Practical sector knowledge translated into clear proposals for institutional and policy change.
2022–2023ORGANISATIONAL TRANSFORMATION
The Polish Radio Choir became part of the Penderecki Centre in Lusławice.
As Chief Executive Officer of the Polish Radio Choir, I led an organisational transformation and the negotiations that culminated in the Choir becoming part of the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice in October 2023.
The new institutional framework protected the ensemble’s continuity and created a sustainable base for its future artistic development.
Lasting outcome A nationally significant ensemble gained long-term institutional security and a clear platform for continued growth.
I advised artistic director Elfa Rún Kristinsdóttir during the creation of the first Reykjavík Early Music Festival, sharing festival know-how and supporting its programming and organisational development.
The inaugural edition took place at Harpa in March 2024, creating a new international platform for historically informed performance in Iceland.
Lasting outcome A new festival entered Reykjavík’s cultural landscape with an international perspective and a foundation for further editions.
2027INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION · SECTOR DEVELOPMENT
Bringing the international sector to Katowice.
By combining the international networks and organisational capacity of SONORA Music with strong local partnerships, we helped bring Classical:NEXT — the global meeting for classical and art music professionals — to Katowice.
SONORA Music is co-hosting the 11–14 May 2027 edition together with Katowice City of Gardens and NOSPR, connecting the city’s music ecosystem with the international sector.
Expected impact New professional relationships, international visibility and long-term opportunities for artists and organisations across Central and Eastern Europe.
